Editing is hard, and takes a lot of time. Sometimes it causes fits of laughter, though.
Consider this gem:
Some guys might detest their dimples, but [character] embraced his.
How exactly does one embrace dimples? Inquiring minds want to know. As you can see, I have my work cut out for me. Better get back to it.

When you are revising a long project, do you have specific, tried and true attack methods? Do you print all the rough material out and make notes in the margins, or do you just work through on the computer bit by bit? If you use outlines, do you revise your outline after the first draft and then rewrite according to the new revision? Or do you do something else entirely?
I'm working on a big revision right now, and I just realized that I've never done a revision on this scale before. Novels and short stories are entirely different beasts. At first I was convinced I ought not waste the paper on printing the rough stuff out, but I've finally cracked, realizing that I just can't keep it all in order without being able to touch it.
